Later, with the decline of the Tubo Dynasty, the Potala Palace also suffered severe damage. It was not until the 17th century, during the time of the Fifth Dalai Lama, that large-scale reconstruction and expansion were carried out on the original foundation, forming the basic layout of the Potala Palace we see today. After that, successive Dalai Lamas continued to repair and expand it.
