Chengdu Polar Ocean Park

Chengdu Polar Ocean Park is located at No. 2039, South Section of Tianfu Avenue, Huayang Street, Tianfu New Area, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. It covers an area of 240,000 square meters and is a National 4A-level tourist attraction. The park features polar animal exhibitions, science education, and marine animal performances as its core highlights. It has 14 major polar ocean animal venues, 7 major ocean circus performance arenas, and more than 30 land amusement facilities, making it a comprehensive ocean-themed park integrating tourism, leisure, science education, and entertainment.

History and Culture

Chengdu Polar Ocean Park was invested in and constructed by Haichang Ocean Park Holdings Ltd. and officially opened in July 2010. As the first polar ocean-themed park in Southwest China, it filled the gap in polar ocean culture exhibition and science education in Sichuan and even the entire Southwest region, becoming a marine culture window for Chengdu to the whole country.

With the philosophy of "getting close to nature and protecting ecology," the park has been committed to marine life protection and science education for many years. It has received over ten million visitors in total and has been awarded honors such as "National Marine Science Education Base" and "Sichuan Province Science Education Base," becoming an important place for young people to learn about the ocean.

Main Attractions

Polar Animal Halls

Includes the Penguin House, Polar Bear House, Beluga Whale House, and others, housing polar animals such as emperor penguins, gentoo penguins, polar bears, and beluga whales. Among them, the Penguin House has the largest penguin colony in Southwest China, and the Beluga Whale House offers performances such as beluga whales blowing rings and underwater ballet.

Marine Animal Performance Arena

It can accommodate 3,000 spectators and features classic marine animal performances every day, including dolphin jumps, sea lion ball balancing, and walrus antics. Each performance lasts about 30 minutes and is a must-see for family visits.

Underwater Tunnel

It is 80 meters long and built with acrylic glass. Visitors can enjoy a full view of marine creatures such as sharks and rays swimming overhead, experiencing an immersive underwater adventure.


Jellyfish House

It displays more than 10 species of jellyfish, including moon jellyfish and Pacific sea nettles. The venue features dreamy lighting effects, creating a fantastical underwater atmosphere and making it a popular photo spot.


Cute Pet Planet

It includes an interactive area for land cute pets such as alpacas, mini pigs, and call ducks. Visitors can feed and take photos with them up close and enjoy parent-child interaction.

Noon: Dine at the ocean-themed restaurant

Afternoon: Jellyfish House → Cute Pet Planet → Deep Sea King Kong amusement facilities → 4D Cinema → Dolphin Dream Show (watch the 15:30 performance)

Evening: Taste seafood barbecue at the snack street → Exit

The whole journey takes about 6-7 hours, covering the main venues, performances, and dining, suitable for families and parent-child visitors.

Visiting Tips:

Check the day's performance schedule in advance through the official WeChat account, arrange your itinerary reasonably, and it is recommended to prioritize the first performance at 10:30.

In summer, the UV radiation inside the park is strong, so it is recommended to bring sunscreen and a sun hat. In winter, bring a warm coat because the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor venues is significant.

For parent-child visitors, strollers can be rented in the scenic area (deposit 200 yuan, rental 30 yuan/day), or you can bring your own baby stroller. Some venues have accessible channels.

It is recommended to experience the 4D Cinema in the park (additional charge of about 30 yuan/person) to watch ocean-themed special-effect films and enhance the visiting experience.

Notes:

It is prohibited to bring flammable and explosive items, pets, and your own food and beverages into the park (except baby food).

When watching performances, please do not stand or walk around randomly, and do not use flash photography to avoid disturbing the animals.

Some amusement facilities have height and age restrictions. Parents should pay attention to the signs and ensure safety when accompanying children.

There are multiple restrooms and nursing rooms in the scenic area. Their locations can be found on the park guide map. Nursing rooms provide services such as breastfeeding and diaper changing.

In case of rain, some outdoor facilities may be closed. It is recommended to follow the park broadcasts or announcements and adjust your tour route.

Transportation:

Metro: Take Chengdu Metro Line 18 to Haichang Road Station, exit from Exit E, and walk about 800 meters to the scenic area.

Bus: Take buses such as T1, T7, and 501 to Polar Ocean World Station, and walk about 200 meters to arrive.

Self-driving: Navigate to "Chengdu Haichang Polar Ocean Park." The scenic area parking lot charges 10 yuan/hour, with a daily cap of 50 yuan.

Taxi: It takes about 30-40 minutes by taxi from downtown Chengdu to the scenic area, costing about 50-70 yuan.

Opening Hours:

The scenic area is open all year round. Daily opening hours are 9:30-17:30 (last entry at 16:30); during summer vacation and statutory holidays, opening hours are 9:00-18:00 (last entry at 17:00). Marine animal performance times are 10:30, 13:00, and 15:30, subject to the scenic area's announcement on the day.
