Historical Culture
The Yimeng Mountain Tourist Area has a profound historical and cultural heritage, encompassing ancient civilization, military culture, religious culture, and red culture. As early as the Neolithic Age, human activity existed here. The Beixin Culture and Dawenkou Culture sites discovered in the Yishan area have unearthed large numbers of pottery and stone tools, bearing witness to the development of early civilization.
The Qi Great Wall ruins are an important historical relic in the scenic area. First built during the Spring and Autumn Period, they span Yishan and Mengshan, with a total length of approximately 618 kilometers. About 30 kilometers of ruins remain within the scenic area. The walls were built with stone blocks, and some sections are well preserved. It is one of the oldest existing Great Walls in China and reflects the ancient military defense system of the Shandong region.
In terms of religious culture, Yishan has the Dongzhen Temple, first built in the Western Han Dynasty. It was a site where emperors of successive dynasties offered sacrifices to the god of Yishan. The existing ancient architectural complex covers an area of approximately 25,000 square meters, with halls, steles, and other historical relics. The Wanshou Palace in the Mengshan Guimeng Scenic Area was first built in the Northern Song Dynasty and was an important activity site of the Quanzhen School of Taoism. Together with Buddhist temples, it forms a diverse religious cultural landscape.
Red culture is the spiritual symbol of Yimeng Mountain. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, the Yimeng Mountain area was an important revolutionary base area. Deeds such as the Battle of Menglianggu and the Yimeng Red Sisters are widely known. The Memorial Hall of the Battle of Menglianggu, the Yimeng Red Sisters Memorial Hall, and others in the scenic area display the tremendous sacrifices and contributions made by the people of Yimeng to the victory of the revolution. The Yimeng spirit of "sharing weal and woe, living and dying together" has been passed down from generation to generation.
