Historical Culture
The Battle of Red Cliffs took place in 208 AD. It was a key battle during the Three Kingdoms period in which the allied forces of Sun Quan and Liu Bei decisively defeated Cao Cao, laying the foundation for the tripartite division of the Three Kingdoms. This battle is a classic example in Chinese history of defeating a larger force with a smaller one, and it is also one of the most famous naval battles in ancient China.
The scenic area preserves a large number of historical relics and cultural landscapes related to the Battle of Red Cliffs. According to research, the existing cliff inscription "Red Cliffs" is said to have been written by Zhou Yu and has a history of more than 1,800 years.
Literati and poets of past dynasties, such as Li Bai, Du Fu, and Su Shi, all came here to pay tribute and left behind a large number of poems and literary works. Among them, Su Shi's Former and Later Odes to the Red Cliffs are the most famous, making Red Cliffs an important image in the history of Chinese culture.
