History and Culture

Zhang Fei, courtesy name Yide, was a famous general of Shu Han in the Three Kingdoms period, known for his bravery and loyalty. The temple was first built in the late Shu Han era, with a history of over 1,700 years. Through renovations and expansions during the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, it gradually reached its current scale. Historically, the temple has been an important site for commemorating Zhang Fei, where many literati left valuable inscriptions and poems. During the Three Gorges Dam project, the temple was relocated in its entirety following the principles of "original materials, original site, and original appearance," preserving its historical appearance and cultural value to the greatest extent.
