Chongqing Garden Expo Park

Chongqing Garden Expo Park is located in the Longjing Lake area, Yuanyang Subdistrict, Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing. It is a national 4A-level tourist attraction and the venue of the 8th China (Chongqing) International Garden Expo. The park covers a total area of 3,300 mu (about 220 hectares), of which the lake surface accounts for 800 mu (about 53.3 hectares). Designed with concepts of traditional, classical, and iconic styles, the park is divided into four functional zones: the Entrance Area, Scenic Area, Exhibition Area, and Ecological Area. It features five major themed buildings—the Main Exhibition Hall, Bayu Garden, Longjing Academy, Chongyun Pagoda, and Fengyu Corridor Bridge—along with 127 urban exhibition gardens. It also includes 51,000 square meters of landscape architecture and 26 scenic spots. The park is home to 128 plant families, 359 genera, and 660 species, as well as over 300 species of wildlife, including 9 species under national second-class key protection.

History and Culture

On January 20, 2010, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development officially confirmed Chongqing as the host city for the 8th Garden Expo. In February of the same year, preparations began, with the site selected at Longjing Lake in the Northern New Area. On April 8, 2011, the main infrastructure construction of the park entered its completion phase. On November 19, 2011, Chongqing Garden Expo Park was completed and opened to the public. Since its opening, the park has held various cultural events—such as the Chongqing Chrysanthemum Art Exhibition, Science and Technology Week, and the Spring Festival Carnival—effectively continuing the theme of garden culture.

Major Attractions

Main Exhibition Hall

With a floor area of approximately 18,000 square meters, the Main Exhibition Hall is one of the park's key buildings. It showcases the essence and development of garden art through various exhibitions and displays, allowing visitors to appreciate the rich connotations of garden culture.

Bayu Garden

Covering about 12,000 square meters, Bayu Garden features traditional architectural styles and folk cultural characteristics of the Bayu region. It includes antique pavilions, winding corridors, and carvings and decorations with local Bayu traits, offering visitors a strong sense of Bayu charm.

Longjing Academy

Set in a tranquil environment with elegant architectural style, Longjing Academy covers 44,650 square meters and is a place full of cultural atmosphere. It regularly hosts cultural lectures, art exhibitions, and other activities, providing a platform for visitors to learn about traditional culture and arts.


Longjing Lake

Longjing Lake is the core water landscape within the park, with a total area of 800 mu (about 533,000 square meters), an average depth of 3.5 meters, and a maximum depth of 8 meters. It is a freshwater lake formed by an artificial dam, with water drawn from a tributary of the Jialing River and meeting national Class III water quality standards. The lake is stocked with koi, grass carp, crucian carp, and other fish, and is home to waterbirds such as egrets, grey herons, and wild ducks, forming a well-developed ecosystem.


Chongyun Pagoda

With a total height of 51.6 meters, a base diameter of 12 meters, and a floor area of about 800 square meters, Chongyun Pagoda is one of the park's landmark structures. Standing tall, it offers a panoramic view of the park, allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful lake, mountain, and garden scenery from the top.


Fengyu Corridor Bridge

Spanning across the lake with a length of 246 meters, the Fengyu Corridor Bridge features an elegant design. It serves not only as a transportation link but also as a great spot for viewing the scenery. Visitors can stroll along the bridge, taking in the lake views and garden landscapes, and experiencing the charm of Jiangnan water towns.


Suggested Tour Route:

Here is a recommended route: Enter through the main entrance, first visit the Modern Garden, then cross Bridge No. 1 to Huicui Garden and the Beijing Pavilion, proceed to the Shenzhen Garden entrance, cross Bridge No. 3 to the Hong Kong–Macau Garden, then go to Longjing Academy and Bayu Garden, and finally exit through the main entrance. Alternatively, enter through the East Entrance, visit the Jiangnan Garden, Western Garden (Chengdu), Northern Garden (Luoyang), and Lingnan Garden, rest near the Cafeteria Station, cross Bridge No. 3 to the Hong Kong–Macau Garden, return to the Jiangnan Garden, and exit through the East Entrance.

Travel Tips:

The park is vast, so wearing comfortable sports shoes is recommended for a better touring experience.

It is advisable to check the park's attraction distribution and event schedule in advance to plan a reasonable route.

Dining options inside the park are relatively limited; you may bring your own food and drinks, or eat at the lakeside restaurants or snack stalls.

If time permits, take your time to explore the landscapes of each garden area and appreciate the charm of different garden styles.

Important Notices:

Security checks are conducted at the entrance. Carrying controlled knives is prohibited. Sealed beverages such as bottled water or tea cups must be opened and sampled by the visitor before entry.

Please help protect the environment—do not litter, damage plants, or harm the landscape.

When playing near the lake, pay attention to safety, take care of the elderly and children, and stay away from hazardous areas.

Follow the park's signs and staff directions for an orderly visit.

Transportation:

Metro: Take Line 3 to Yuanyang Station, exit and walk straight for 500 meters to reach the East Secondary Entrance.

Bus: Take bus No. 555, 559, 575, 623, 633, 676, 883, or 965 to the Garden Expo Park Main Gate stop, cross the overpass to reach the main entrance.

Driving: Self-driving visitors can navigate to "Chongqing Garden Expo Park (Main Entrance)" or "Chongqing Garden Expo Park East Secondary Entrance."

Opening Hours:

Open from 09:00 to 17:00; last entry at 17:00; park closes at 20:00.

Admission to Chongqing Garden Expo Park is free. Visitors can make a reservation online via QR code scan for entry.
