Chimelong Paradise

Chimelong Paradise is located at No. 299, Hanxi Avenue East, Panyu District, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. It is part of the National 5A Guangzhou Chimelong Tourist Resort and sits in the core area of the resort. The park covers a total area of about 2,000 mu (approximately 133 hectares). Phase I construction took two years, with a total investment exceeding RMB 2 billion. The overall design adopts a European continental theme style, making it a benchmark for early large-scale European-style theme parks in China. The park is equipped with more than 70 sets of amusement facilities, most of which are imported from Switzerland, Germany, Italy, the United States, and other countries. It holds eight Asian and world-class amusement ride records, including landmark large rides such as the Vertical Roller Coaster and the former Ten-Loop Roller Coaster. The park is divided into six basic themed zones: Jungle Adventure, Rhythm Land, Happy Carnival, Star Dream Wonderland, Touching Space, and Scream Zone. It also includes the independently operated Happy Town area, which opened in 2017. The park has two professional performance plazas, an indoor climate-controlled children’s amusement center, a 4D cinema, and multiple themed restaurants and cultural-creative shops. It integrates high-speed rides, live stunt performances, float parades, ecological leisure, and comprehensive services, covering the needs of visitors of all ages. Since opening, it has received over 30 million visits and once set an industry record of more than 100,000 visits in a single day. It has won multiple awards, including China’s Best Theme Park and global theme park association industry awards. It is a leading large-scale comprehensive theme park in South China with top-tier ride configurations.

History and Culture

2006 was a key year for the park’s construction and opening. Chimelong Group began building the park on the site of the former Chimelong Night Animal World. On April 7 of the same year, Chimelong Paradise officially opened to the public. At opening, it introduced multiple world-class roller coasters at once, breaking the ceiling for ride configurations among domestic theme parks and pioneering a European-style park operation model in China that emphasized rides over artificial landscaping. It quickly became a reference model for the domestic theme park industry.

In August 2008, Guangzhou Chimelong Tourist Resort, including Chimelong Paradise, was rated as a National 5A Tourist Attraction, becoming a core cultural tourism icon of Guangzhou. The park’s performance system was also standardized, with daily stunt theater shows, themed parades, and interactive stage performances, forming a dual-core operation system of rides plus performances.

On January 17, 2017, the original circus-themed area Happy Town officially opened, adding five new rides including Free Fall, Flying Magic Wheel, and Thunderbolt Spinner. In September of the same year, Asia’s first Rocket Roller Coaster began operation, filling the park’s gap in high-speed launch rides and expanding its thrill ride categories.

In 2020, the park completed an upgrade of performance facilities throughout the park, optimized the float parade route, updated theater sound and light effects, and improved family ride supporting facilities, balancing extreme thrill rides with gentle family experiences. In 2025, the park launched a large-scale renewal project, adding six new rides: Launch Roller Coaster, Super Rapids, Super Pirate Ship, Magic Swing, Hurricane Flying Chairs, and Interstellar Battleship. In December of the same year, the original Guinness-record Ten-Loop Roller Coaster ceased operation, iterating and updating the ride matrix with new equipment. Over the years, the park has continued to hold themed festivals such as Chimelong Happy Halloween, Summer Electronic Music Party, and Spring Festival Carnival, integrating European and American carnival culture with local Lingnan festival features to form its own festival culture system.
