Chimelong Water Park

Chimelong Water Park is located at No. 299 Hanxi Avenue East, Panyu District, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. It is part of Guangzhou Chimelong Tourist Resort, which is a National 5A-Level Tourist Attraction. The park covers a total area of 450 mu, equivalent to 300,000 square meters. It was jointly designed and built by Canada’s WhiteWater and Forrec. It is a large-scale water-themed park with a leading number of rides globally and top-level attraction specifications. Most of the park’s amusement equipment is imported original equipment from overseas, and it features many exclusive slide facilities that have won international amusement industry awards. Since 2013, it has been the water park with the highest annual attendance in the world for many consecutive years, and it has long been awarded the annual Must-Visit Water Park award by IAAPA. The park has complete supporting facilities, including multiple visitor service centers, food and beverage shops, shower and changing rooms, storage areas, and medical stations. Its overall feature is a tropical water-play atmosphere. It balances high-thrill racing attractions for young people with all-age family splash and leisure areas. It also offers an exclusive nighttime Starlight Water Party, forming a dual-mode experience of daytime water play and nighttime electronic music carnival. Its average annual visitor volume has long ranked first among water parks worldwide.

History

In May 2007, Chimelong Water Park officially opened, becoming the first large-scale high-end water theme park in South China and filling the market gap for large temperature-controlled water parks in China at that time. In its early opening period, it introduced many international benchmark slides. With its rich water-play attractions, it quickly became a core summer water-play destination in South China, and in the same year it was selected for the World’s Top 20 Water Parks list. In 2008, the affiliated Guangzhou Chimelong Tourist Resort was rated as one of the first batch of National 5A-Level Tourist Attractions, and the water park was included as a core amusement section of the national-level resort.

In 2012, the park added the Heat Wave Valley themed area, expanded large leisure water-play facilities such as Giant Flood Gorge, and enriched gentle drifting experiences. In 2013, the park received 2.17 million visitors for the year, topping the global annual water park attendance ranking for the first time. Since then, it has continued to break its own records for total annual visitors and average daily attendance among global water parks, and for many consecutive years it has won the IAAPA Must-Visit Water Park title. From 2013 to 2017, it consistently ranked on the World’s Top 20 Water Parks list, becoming a benchmark model for China’s water park industry.

Over the years, the park has continued to iteratively update its amusement equipment and introduce globally exclusive water-play facilities. In 2025, the park completed a major equipment upgrade, adding two top international slides, Storm Double Cannon and Soaring Double Wave Board, alongside the Magnetic Cannon Water Coaster to complete its high-thrill slide matrix. At the same time, the park has deepened its nighttime cultural tourism content, creating nighttime performances such as the Starlight Water Party, Water Electronic Music Show, and themed parades. In 2022, the affiliated Chimelong Resort was rated as a National Nighttime Culture and Tourism Consumption Cluster, and the water park’s nighttime water-play business has become a core component of nighttime cultural tourism consumption. With water-play leisure as its carrier, the park integrates tropical style, Classic of Mountains and Seas Chinese-style themes, and trendy electronic music culture, forming a themed park with multiple attributes including leisure entertainment, nighttime cultural tourism, and family vacation.

Main Attractions

Super Tornado

Super Tornado is the park’s signature flagship amusement attraction. Its platform height is 25 meters. The ride requires four visitors to ride together in a clover-shaped raft, plunging from the high platform into a giant horn-shaped tube. It relies on gravity for high-speed spinning and swinging, with a strong weightlessness and centrifugal experience throughout. The slide has a dedicated viewing platform, allowing visitors who are not riding to watch the entire slide up close. The height requirement is 1.4 meters and above. It is the first-choice check-in attraction for visitors entering the park.

Storm Double Cannon

A top-tier thrill slide newly upgraded in 2025. Its main body consists of two giant horn slides each 18 meters in diameter, connected in the middle by the world’s largest-diameter transparent fiberglass slide. The launch platform is 33 meters high, equivalent to a 12-story building. The maximum sliding speed can reach 40 kilometers per hour. Riders experience two consecutive high-altitude horn spirals and plunges, with a double centrifugal impact experience. This facility shares the same launch tower with Soaring Double Wave Board. The height requirement is above 1.4 meters.

Soaring Double Wave Board

It shares the 33-meter-high launch platform with Storm Double Cannon. The sliding path first goes through an extra-long enclosed spiral slide, then rushes into two giant surfboard areas. Riders briefly become airborne, simulating the feeling of riding atop a ten-meter giant wave. It can be ridden in a single-person raft and is suitable for visitors seeking high-speed weightlessness. The height limit is 1.4 meters and above.

Magnetic Cannon Water Coaster

A water coaster using magnetohydrodynamic propulsion technology. The track is 500 meters long in total. It relies on magnetic force to instantly accelerate to 48 kilometers per hour. The entire course is divided into six acceleration and dive track segments. Unlike ordinary gravity slides, it offers a unique launch-start experience. There is no manual pushing throughout; acceleration and sliding are automated. It is the park’s exclusive racing-style thrill attraction. Only visitors 1.4 meters and above are allowed to ride.

Rocking Giant Wheel

The world’s only 360-degree self-rotating water slide. The main cylinder of the slide rotates independently throughout the ride. Its overall height is 26 meters. The sliding process includes a combination of backward movement, 720-degree rotation, and lighting effects. The interior of the cylinder features changing light and shadow, creating both visual and physical impact. It is ridden in a single-person raft. The queue is shortest within one hour after daily opening. It is a popular internet-famous check-in slide. The height requirement starts at 1.4 meters.

Vertical Limit

It includes three differentiated independent slides. The yellow slide reaches an extreme speed of nearly 40 kilometers per hour. The blue slide focuses on long-distance rotating centrifugal force. The orange slide has the largest vertical angle, with an almost 90-degree straight drop into the water, completing the high-altitude plunge in 3 seconds. Visitors can freely choose among the three slides. All require visitors to be at least 1.4 meters tall.

Giant Beast Bowl

A high-speed plunge slide connects to a giant vortex bowl. Visitors rush from high altitude into the bowl-shaped chamber at high speed, continuously rotate along the bowl wall, and finally slide down through the center channel into the water. The circular rotation brings a strong sense of dizziness and weightlessness. It is ridden by teams of four in a raft. The height limit is 1.4 meters and above.

Adventure Lazy River

The park’s leisure drifting river channel. It is 1,280 meters long in total. Its overall theme is the mythology of the Classic of Mountains and Seas, and it is divided into three themed sections: Mountain Realm, Sea Realm, and Heaven Realm. Along the way, there are waterfalls, simulated rocks, interactive water sprayers, and small wave areas. Visitors can rent double or single rafts for slow drifting. There is no hard height limit for the entire route. Young children can ride accompanied by adults. There are multiple free life jacket pickup points along the river.

Giant Flood Gorge

A circulating giant-wave drifting river. It is 1,000 meters long in total. Every 15 minutes, a 3-meter-high artificial wave is triggered. There is no long queue throughout, and visitors can experience surfing and drifting in unlimited loops. The current is gentle and suitable for visitors of all ages. Children must be accompanied by parents. Wearing a life jacket in the channel is strongly recommended and effectively required.

Wonderful Family Water City

The park’s dedicated play area for young children. It features 42 sets of interactive water toys and 9 mini children’s slides. The overall water depth is within 0.8 meters. The shallow-water design ensures children’s safety. It is equipped with small fountains and climbing water-play facilities. It is suitable for children from 1 meter to 1.4 meters tall. Children under 1 meter require close adult supervision throughout.

Super Wave Pool

The park’s core performance and water-play area. It can generate 9 different intensities of artificial waves, with wave heights ranging from fine ripples to several-meter-high giant waves. The water area is wide, with a large performance stage in the center. During the day, exotic water performances are held; at night, a water electronic music party and light show are created. Visitors of all ages can play in the water. Life jackets must be worn when playing in deep water.

Speed Slide

It consists of four independent parallel slides. The starting platform height is 20 meters. Visitors lie on special flying-carpet mats and slide down. They first pass through an enclosed loop water channel, then enter an open straight plunge. Four people can race simultaneously to compete for speed. The thrill level is moderate. Visitors 1.2 meters and above can participate.

Play Tips:

Try to arrive at the park before the 10:00 opening. In the morning, queue times for popular thrill slides can be reduced by more than half. On weekends and holidays, it is recommended to arrive at the ticket gate 30 minutes earlier.

From 12:00 to 15:00 in summer, UV intensity is high. Visitors can prioritize leisure areas with water cover, such as the lazy river and wave pool, and avoid concentrating on open-air slides.

For high cost-effectiveness, visitors can choose a night ticket. After 17:00, the temperature is cooler, and visitors can fully watch the water electronic music and lighting performances. The ticket price is lower than the full-day daytime ticket.

Groups traveling together can rent a locker and share the cost. Small lockers offer better value. Valuables should be stored throughout to avoid loss during water play.

Before riding thrill slides, remove necklaces, earrings, watches, and other metal or sharp accessories to prevent scratching the body or losing them during sliding.

The park provides free life jackets. They must be worn when playing in the lazy river, Giant Flood Gorge, and the deep-water area of the wave pool. Visitors who cannot swim must not take them off throughout.

To reduce queuing, visitors can purchase the park’s fast wristband. Using it during afternoon peak hours can greatly shorten waiting times for popular slides.

June to September is the park’s peak season. On Wednesdays, the number of visitors is usually the lowest. Traveling during off-peak times can greatly reduce attraction queue times.

Notes:

The park prohibits bringing glass containers, alcoholic drinks, drones, selfie sticks, and self-heating food. Only baby formula, drinks required for special medical needs, and a small amount of sealed vacuum snacks may be brought in.

All thrill slide attractions have height and weight restrictions. Visitors must meet the requirements of 1.4 meters in height and 45 to 90 kilograms in weight to ride. Visitors who do not meet the requirements cannot participate.

The ground is hot after long exposure to sunlight. Visitors must wear anti-slip water shoes throughout. Walking barefoot is prohibited to avoid foot burns, slips, and scratches.

The water surface has high UV reflection. Visitors should bring SPF50 or higher waterproof sunscreen, reapply it every two hours, and use sun hats and sun-protective clothing to reduce sunburn.

There are multiple free drinking water points in the park. Visitors can bring an empty water cup and do not need to buy large amounts of bottled water, reducing expenses.

Locker rental requires a refundable deposit of 20 yuan. The deposit is returned before the park closes on the same day. Items not collected after the deadline will be kept by the park. Collecting them the next day requires an additional storage fee.

Pregnant women, people with high blood pressure, heart disease, acrophobia, or recent surgery are prohibited from participating in high-altitude and high-speed slide attractions. They may only play in gentle family areas.

Children under 1 meter enter free. Each adult may bring only one free child. Additional children require a child discount ticket.

In case of rainstorms or lightning, the park will temporarily close all water slides. Visitors may wait in indoor shops and rest areas. Attractions will reopen after the weather improves.

Nude or revealing swimwear is prohibited in the park. Visitors must wear compliant full swimwear. Staff will discourage visitors who do not meet the dress requirements from entering the water.
