History and Culture

The Xiamen Science and Technology Museum officially opened to the public in March 2007. Funded and built by the Xiamen municipal government, it is a key cultural and livelihood project. Leveraging Xiamen’s positioning as a tech-innovative city, the museum is dedicated to popularizing scientific knowledge and promoting the spirit of science. It quickly became the core science education hub in Fujian Province.

In 2010, the museum was rated a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, making it one of the few science museums in China to receive this designation. In 2013, it was named a National Science Education Base, continuously enhancing its educational services. Over the years, the museum has constantly updated its exhibits and optimized visitor experiences, receiving over 20 million visits in total, of which more than 70% were children and teenagers. It has become the most popular family-oriented science destination in Xiamen and the broader southern Fujian region.

Beyond its role in science popularization, the museum also carries significant cultural and educational value, serving as a vehicle for urban scientific and cultural communication, youth science enlightenment, and a window showcasing Xiamen’s innovative vitality and integrated development of culture and technology.
