History and Culture
The Nanling Mountains where Yunbing Mountain is located were a migration corridor for the ancestors of the Yao people. Within the scenic area, the remains of a thousand-year-old Yao village are preserved, with more than 20 surviving stone house foundations, verified as a Yao settlement from the Tang and Song dynasties. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, this was an important post station on the Hunan-Guangdong trade route. A bluestone ancient road about 3 kilometers long is still preserved, with hoof prints left by mules and horses on the stones. The scenic area gets its name because it is often shrouded in clouds and mist and has prominent ice rime landscapes in winter. It was officially developed as a tourist attraction in 2017 and is now an important destination for ecological tourism and folk culture experiences in southern Hunan.
