Historical Culture
The construction of the National Maritime Museum of China carries the important mission of inheriting maritime civilization and popularizing maritime knowledge. In 2010, the National Maritime Museum of China was officially approved. After years of planning and construction, it opened to the public on a trial basis on May 1, 2019, and fully opened to the public on June 1, 2021. As a national-level maritime museum, it gathers marine cultural relics, specimens, and other collections from all over the country and even the world, with more than 40,000 items, including many treasures of important historical and scientific value, such as ancient ship artifacts and marine biological specimens. These collections not only witness the long process of human exploration of the ocean, but also reflect the development and evolution of maritime culture in different historical periods, providing valuable physical materials for the study of maritime history and biodiversity.
