During his fifth voyage to Japan, the famous Tang Dynasty monk Master Jianzhen drifted to Nanshan, where he stayed for a year and a half and spread Buddhist culture. During the Song Dynasty, temples were built at Nanshan, which became a holy place of worship for Buddhist believers.

In modern times, Nanshan has been further developed and protected. In 1995, construction of Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone began. After years of development, it has become a comprehensive tourist attraction integrating Buddhist culture, ecological tourism, and leisure vacations.
