Xixia Dinosaur Relic Park is located in Danshui Town, Xixia County, Nanyang City, Henan Province. It is a national 5A-level tourist attraction and a world geopark. The scenic area covers about 15 square kilometers and mainly consists of the Dinosaur Egg Fossil Museum, the Dinosaur Egg Site Exhibition Hall, the Dinosaur Hall, and the Simulated Dinosaur Park. It is the only theme park in the world that mainly exhibits dinosaur egg fossils. More than 100,000 dinosaur egg fossils have been discovered in the park, covering 8 families, 12 genera, and 25 species. Both the quantity and quality rank first in the world, and it is praised as the "Ninth Wonder of the World."
History and Culture
The Xixia dinosaur egg fossil group was discovered in 1993, dating back about 90 million to 65 million years, belonging to the Late Cretaceous period. This discovery filled an important gap in the study of dinosaur extinction and was listed as one of the world's top ten science and technology news stories in 1993.
In 2003, the Xixia dinosaur egg fossil group was approved by the State Council as a national nature reserve; in 2006, together with Funiu Mountain, it was rated as a world geopark by UNESCO; in 2014, the Dinosaur Relic Park was promoted to a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction.
The Xixia dinosaur egg fossils are known for their large quantity, complete variety, wide distribution, and good preservation, providing precious physical materials for studying dinosaur extinction and changes in the Earth's environment.
Main Attractions
Dinosaur Egg Fossil Museum
The main building is shaped like a giant dinosaur egg. The museum displays more than 2,000 dinosaur egg fossils of various types, including the world's rare "dinosaur egg nest" fossils. Through modern technologies such as sound, light, and electricity, it vividly recreates the ecological environment of the dinosaur era.
Dinosaur Egg Site Exhibition Hall
A protective exhibition hall built on the original site, preserving the original burial state of the dinosaur egg fossils. In the exhibition area, multiple "egg nests" with densely distributed dinosaur egg fossils can be seen, the largest of which contains 36 dinosaur egg fossils.
Dinosaur Hall
It displays more than 20 dinosaur skeleton fossils and restored models, including the 38-meter-long "Xixia Giant Dragon" and the ferocious "Xixia Tyrannosaurus." Through fossil specimens and illustrated introductions, it systematically shows the evolutionary process of dinosaurs from birth to extinction.
Simulated Dinosaur Park
An outdoor exhibition area covering 30,000 square meters, with more than 50 1:1 scale electric simulated dinosaurs that can make sounds and perform various movements, recreating the dinosaur world of the Cretaceous period.
4D Dynamic Cinema
Using advanced 4D technology, it plays popular science films such as "The Extinction of Dinosaurs." Audiences can experience special effects such as vibration, water spray, and wind, and feel the shocking scenes of the dinosaur era immersively.
