History and Culture

The name Niulanggang originates from the folk love legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. According to legend, the Weaver Girl once stayed here while playing on earth, and gazed across the sea at the Cowherd. Thus, the scenic area carries the cultural connotation of romantic and faithful love, becoming a well-known love-themed seaside destination in eastern Fujian. For thousands of years, local fishermen have lived and worked here, regarding Niulanggang as an auspicious and blessed coastal haven, forming a simple fishing-folk culture.

The Taimu Mountain area, where the scenic spot is located, has been a key transportation route along the Fujian?Zhejiang coast since ancient times, with a blend of maritime commerce and fishing culture. As a natural sheltered harbor, Niulanggang has witnessed the changes in production and daily life of coastal residents over time. In modern times, it has gradually transformed from a natural fishing village into a standardized tourist attraction. While protecting the natural coastal landforms, it preserves folk legends and fishing heritage, making it a coastal destination with both natural value and cultural depth.
