Features: The Three-Character Classic of Medicine was written by the renowned Qing Dynasty physician Chen Xiuyuan in his later years. It is a comprehensive summary of his lifelong clinical experience, covering etiology, pathogenesis, syndrome differentiation, treatment principles, and effective prescriptions. The entire book is written in three-character rhyming prose, concise and memorable, making it easy to read and recall. It serves as an excellent introductory text for beginners in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Due to its rhyming prose style, the text is succinct but can be difficult to fully grasp without deeper study. In the 1960s, the People's Medical Publishing House published The Three-Character Classic of Medicine with Colloquial Explanations, which was well-received by readers and has been reprinted numerous times. To better meet reader needs, the Department of Clinical Chinese Materia Medica, School of Pharmacy, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, revised and updated the book based on the second edition. This revision adds annotations by Chen Xiuyuan himself on the Three-Character Classic of Medicine, providing systematic colloquial explanations of the original text to help readers fully understand Chen's academic thoughts. Additionally, supplementary remarks have been included, summarizing key points and evaluating Chen's academic viewpoints, highlighting their value and limitations. The new edition of The Three-Character Classic of Medicine with Colloquial Explanations is more systematic and practical, making it an essential gateway book for enthusiasts of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
