Pharmacopoeia Baihua Jie - (3rd Edition)

Author: Gao Xuemin

Publish Date: 2006-12-01
Features: Yao Xing Fu (A Rhyming Compendium of Medicinal Properties), the original book does not specify the author, but it is believed to be a work from the Jin and Yuan dynasties. The book categorizes 248 commonly used Chinese medicinal herbs into four types based on their properties: cold, hot, warm, and neutral, written in rhyming prose. It is concise, easy to recite, and memorable, making it an excellent introductory text for beginners in the study of Chinese medicine. Particularly, its summary of medicinal properties is insightful—once memorized, it remains invaluable throughout one's life. It has been deeply cherished by readers across generations and has remained popular and enduring to this day. Since the book is based on centuries-old literature, its language is overly simplistic, making it difficult to fully grasp its depth. Therefore, it is necessary to provide appropriate translations, annotations, and supplements. The People's Medical Publishing House published Yao Xing Fu Baihua Jie (A Colloquial Explanation of Yao Xing Fu) in the 1960s, followed by two subsequent revisions. This edition enhances the annotations of the original Yao Xing Fu, adds clinical applications and safe medication guidelines, and includes annotations for the Eighteen Contradictory Herbs Song, Nineteen Mutual Incompatibilities Song, Six Medicinal Herbs to Avoid When Storing in Winter Song, and Medication Restrictions During Pregnancy Song. The goal is to make the book more clinically relevant and up-to-date, facilitating learning and practical use for readers.
