They introduce the political, economic, cultural, and social historical changes of the described countries to readers in an easy-to-understand language. The books are authoritative, accessible, and highly readable. The series has been a great success since its publication, with some titles reprinted more than 10 times. Our company has selected 10 of them to offer to readers. A Concise History of France is one of the books in the series. This book clearly and comprehensively introduces the history of France from the early Middle Ages to the present—from the time of Charlemagne to the era of Jacques Chirac—and represents the latest achievements in French historical research. The book primarily discusses important issues such as the state and society, the consequences of war, who governs, and how rulers exercise power. Key figures in French history, such as Philip II, Henry IV, Louis XIV, Robespierre, Napoleon, and Charles de Gaulle, are all discussed in the book. Additionally, the book introduces the research findings of social historians on ordinary people, social structures, religious beliefs, and economic activities. The second edition of this book includes significant revisions to the first edition. It incorporates the latest research findings on French history and adds a new chapter specifically on contemporary French society in the context of the new international landscape.
