PART 01 The Crisis of Aret City
With the help of the fire sprite Fall, the fire quickly rose. The wolf, which had been processed, was placed on the fire, and soon began to emit a tempting aroma. Leon and Emi sat together, with the female assassin sitting opposite them, and the fire sprite Fall guarding nearby. Emi was still leaning in Leon's arms, she seemed a bit tired and didn't even want to speak. Leon didn't want to disturb her rest, so he gently stroked her shoulder, letting his body heat warm her. It seemed that the problem between them had been resolved.
After gazing at Emi's face for a moment, Leon lifted his head and looked at the assassin. The issue now focused entirely on her. She maintained a posture, like a statue, staring blankly at the fire in front of her. She seemed better than before—perhaps due to the warmth and light of the bonfire. But this was not enough—she said nothing, and Leon was certain she knew something. She must know what would happen after dawn, she might know what the old man Nirvash was planning, and she might even know about Lucifer and the others! But she never opened her mouth, as if she completely ignored Leon staring at her.
"Hey!" Leon couldn't hold back any longer and called out tentatively, "You—do you have no intention of saying anything?" The female assassin slowly lifted her head, her black eyes coldly staring at Leon across the fire.
"What do you want me to say?" she snorted. "There's nothing to say."
"I'm not your enemy," Leon tried to persuade her. "I had countless chances to kill you—" He suddenly felt that what he'd said was both stupid and unrefined, and he couldn't help but lightly knock his own head in frustration.
"How—do you mean I should be grateful to you?" The female assassin mocked him.
"But at least you don't want to commit suicide anymore," Leon found an excuse. "Perhaps you also think that living will give you more hope."
"It's because of you!" Hearing this, the woman suddenly grew agitated. She straightened up and yelled at Leon, "It's because of you that my mission failed! Now that I'm alive, it's no longer meaningful—better to die!"
"Is it because of me that you no longer have the courage to commit suicide?" A woman's voice came from Leon's arms. Leon lowered his head and saw Emi staring at the female assassin, and he sighed softly in relief.
"You're Ray." Emi said expressionlessly. "Is that right?"
The female assassin froze suddenly.
