Xishuangbanna Primeval Forest Park is located in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, about 8 kilometers from the urban area of Jinghong. It is a national 4A-level scenic area covering an area of 30,000 mu, with a forest coverage rate of 98.6%. It is a relatively well-preserved primeval forest south of the Tropic of Cancer. The altitude within the scenic area ranges from 720 to 1,355 meters, with obvious natural advantages. It integrates the magical natural scenery of the primeval forest and rich folk customs, and mainly embodies three thematic features: "tropical valley rainforest," "wildlife exhibition centered on peacock culture," and "folk customs exhibition centered on the Hani-Aini people." At the same time, it is equipped with the Peacock Villa Resort, built to four-star standards, integrating guest rooms, dining, conference services, and entertainment.
History and Culture
The Dai people of Xishuangbanna have a long history and have created a splendid culture. The Dai calendar, Dai script, and colorful ethnic folk literature and art are renowned throughout the world. As early as more than a thousand years ago, the ancestors of the Dai people wrote many beautiful and moving myths, legends, fables, novels, poems, and other works on palm leaves and cotton paper. There are more than 550 long poems written in Dai script alone. Dai dance art has a high level and distinctive characteristics, such as the "Peacock Dance" and the "Elephant-Foot Drum Dance," with movements mostly imitating and beautifying animals. The Dai people believe in Theravada Buddhism. Buddhist temple buildings can be seen everywhere. Almost every village has a Buddhist temple, and some Buddhist temples also have pagodas nearby. Buddhist architectural art is a precious cultural and artistic treasure of the Dai people. In addition, the Dai bamboo house is the most typical stilt-style building surviving in China, with an elegant and unique shape, cool and comfortable to live in.
Main Attractions
Aini Village
This is a window for displaying Aini culture. It features traditional Hani architectural style, and visitors can also see ten vivid original Hani mural works that tell the stories of the Hani people. Tourists can join the enthusiastic Ga Mi Mi (Hani song and dance performance), dance to the cheerful rhythm, and experience the rich Hani customs.
Tropical Valley Rainforest
The park contains a well-preserved tropical valley rainforest south of the Tropic of Cancer, where visitors can enjoy strange landscapes such as buttress roots, strangling figs, cauliflory, and ancient vines. As tourists follow the sightseeing path deeper into the forest to explore, they may encounter scenes of monkeys playing among the branches and hornbills foraging in the forest.
Golden Lake (Peacock Release)
Visitors can watch the spectacular scene of numerous peacocks flying down from the mountain, a magnificent and highly ornamental sight. Along the road to Golden Lake, dozens of peacocks stroll leisurely. If you are lucky, you may also see a peacock spreading its tail feathers.
Intangible Cultural Heritage Folk Custom Exhibition Hall
This is a treasure house for exploring the cultural treasures of the ethnic minorities in Xishuangbanna Prefecture, displaying rich intangible cultural heritage folk custom artifacts. Visitors can listen to intangible cultural heritage musical instrument performances. The performances of Dai Zhangha, cucurbit flute, elephant-foot drum, and other intangible cultural heritage instruments are like melodies traveling through time and space, leading people into the music hall of ancient ethnic groups and allowing them to feel the charm of Xishuangbanna's intangible cultural heritage.
Nine Dragons Flying Waterfall
The original site was a natural waterfall. Legend says this is the place where a young man named "Nine Dragons" killed an evil dragon.
Manshuanglong White Pagoda
It is a Dai Buddhist pagoda. The pagoda body is as white as jade, and the top is like a bamboo shoot, so it is also called the "Bamboo Shoot Pagoda." It is a typical building of Theravada Buddhism. The main pagoda is 18 meters high. Beside the sightseeing path, two 68-meter giant dragons guard the way. Tourists need to climb 286 steps to show sincerity.
