Dongfengyun Scenic Area is located at Changtangzi, Grape Sightseeing Avenue, Xinshao Town, Mile City, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is a national 4A-level tourist attraction, with a total planned area of 3.69 square kilometers and a core area of 1.6 square kilometers. Construction of the scenic area began in 2014. It integrates multiple industries such as ecological agriculture, art and culture, and leisure vacation and wellness, and brings together rich landscapes including a lavender manor, a wine manor, and an artists' manor. It is famous for its unique architecture and beautiful natural scenery. Most of its buildings use local red bricks and were designed by Mile-born artist Luo Xu. They incorporate elements such as wine culture and the fire culture of the Axi branch of the Yi people, with peculiar shapes full of artistic appeal.
History and Culture
The predecessor of Dongfengyun Art Town was the Mile Dongfeng Farm, first established in 1958. In 2011, Dongfeng Farm implemented management localization reform and was placed under the management of the Mile County People's Government. After that, in 2014, construction of the scenic area began, and it gradually developed into today's tourist destination integrating art, culture, and leisure. The Agricultural Reclamation Museum vividly reproduces the transformation of Dongfeng Farm from a reform-through-labor farm to an art town through old photos, farm tools, and other exhibits. The scenic area also regularly holds various cultural activities such as art exhibitions, music festivals, and photography exhibitions, fully displaying the local historical and cultural heritage and artistic achievements.
Main Attractions
Kaleidoscope Art Museum
This is the most popular internet-famous check-in spot in the scenic area. The building integrates wine culture and Yi fire culture, appearing as castles shaped like wine bottles and flames. It is entirely built of red bricks, without a single steel bar or nail. The internal spiral structure and the Thousand-Person Chorus Pottery Figurine Exhibition Area are highly visually striking. The light and shadow inside the museum change with the seasons, with the best light at around 3 p.m. Sunlight passing through the brick cracks forms unique light and shadow on the ground, like a maze. It is praised as a "magical castle of magical futurism" and "the fairy-tale castle closest to your heart."
Lavender Theme Park (Colorful Flower Fields)
It grows more than 10 kinds of flowers, including lavender, iris, campanula, and coreopsis. From April to October each year, large areas of lavender bloom, set off by Dutch-style windmills, making people feel as if they are in Europe. It enjoys the reputation of "Provence in central Yunnan." There is an observation deck in the middle of the flower fields where visitors can overlook the entire sea of flowers.
Half Cloud
It continues the architectural style of the Kaleidoscope Art Museum and is named for its shape, which resembles "half a cloud at the horizon." Its layered outer walls are like continuous clouds. Inside, there is a Zen-style tea break space, making it a popular place for tourists to rest and take photos.
Niuduoluo Music Farm
It is filled with various music sculptures and musical note paths, and even the waterwheel seems to carry music, creating a strong artistic atmosphere that is deeply loved by tourists.
