Japanese Criminal Code (Second Edition)

Author: Zhang Mingkai (Translator)
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-03-01
Features: The current Criminal Code of Japan was promulgated in 1907 and came into effect on October 1, 1908. Unlike the old Criminal Code, which was modeled after the 1810 French Criminal Code, the current Criminal Code was formulated based on the 1870 German Criminal Code, with its greatest features being the generality of criminal types and the broadness of statutory penalties. In 1998, at the invitation of the Legal Publishing House, the translator translated the "Japanese Criminal Code" based on the Criminal Code section of Japan's Sanseido "Model Six Laws" and the "Amended Criminal Code Draft" in the "Brief Six Laws." In the few years after the publication of the book, the Japanese legislative body made multiple revisions to the Criminal Code: three revisions in 2001, two revisions in 2003, major revisions in 2004, and two more revisions in 2005. In view of this, the translator comprehensively revised the "Japanese Criminal Code" based on the new edition of Japan's Sanseido "Model Six Laws." It is hoped that the release of the second edition of the "Japanese Criminal Code" will enable readers to fully understand the new developments in Japanese criminal law and provide certain insights for criminal legislation in our country.
