Features: Mou Zongsan Sensei felt that university education was compartmentalized, focusing solely on knowledge while creating a disconnect from life, temperament, spiritual interests, and cultural concepts. He used National Taiwan Normal University as a platform to hold regular, open seminars for scholars and friends, named the Humanistic Friendship Association. The lectures compiled and organized in this book were from those sessions. Mou Sensei recognized that Chinese scholarship must overcome the Western "model of learning"—the opposition between life and reason—and the fundamental key lies in recognizing life. From this insight, he understood the authentic scholarship opened by Chinese sages: philosophy should be reoriented based on this understanding of learning, literature should have its soul nurtured based on this understanding, and history should transform and elevate its spirit based on this understanding.
