Features: This book is part of the "New Generation Information and Communication Technology Series · Optical Network Album." Automatic Switched Optical Network (ASON) is a new type of optical network that meets the development needs, endows intelligent capabilities to optical transport networks, and revolutionizes the network architecture, service configuration, and service provision of optical transport networks. It is a significant advancement with promising application prospects and development potential. This book provides a comprehensive and systematic introduction to the key technologies of ASON, primarily divided into three parts. The first part covers the evolution and development of optical networks, as well as the architecture and basic principles of ASON. The second part discusses the multiple key technologies in ASON implementation, including the transport plane, control plane, management plane, data communication network, and survivability of ASON. The third part presents multiple key technologies and examples in ASON applications, such as planning and optimization, protocol testing, networking, and network convergence. The book is carefully selected, rich in content, easy to understand, and highly systematic. For some key technologies, it adopts a practical and visually engaging approach, emphasizing conceptual explanations while also presenting advanced research findings. This book can serve as a textbook or teaching reference for graduate or senior undergraduate students in information and communication disciplines at universities. It is also suitable for researchers and engineering professionals engaged in communication-related work.
