Features: The heroine He Yujie, with her graceful and delicate figure, pretty and elegant face, as well as her noble temperament, skilled techniques, and highly rhythmic dance movements, captivated the entire audience. He (Xiang Ming) faced the sea, toward the southwest direction of his teacher's tomb, raised the teacher's ashes high above his head, and paid a deeply emotional tribute, scattering them into the sea.
After the eulogy, Xiang Ming sat grief-stricken on the reef, gazing intently at the sea. By the moonlight, he saw a figure rising slowly from the sea where it met the sky, walking on the waves with a smile toward him—a sincere and profound declaration of love, a heart-wrenching tragic story. The ugly faces of corrupt officials, a true reflection of contemporary society. Sea Sacrifice is a long novel depicting the joys and sorrows, life and death, of four generations—old, middle-aged, young, and children—of the "Zhongdu Dance and Music Troupe" in their studies, work, and lives at home and abroad. The book consists of four volumes.
Volume 1: Tragic Soul in the Art Sea, describes how the young dancer He Yujie and the erhu player Xiang Ming were neighbors who grew up playing and studying together. Their elders had formed a deep bond early on. During the Cultural Revolution, Xiang Ming was sent to the countryside, far from his homeland, losing contact with the He family. The orphan He Yujie was then in primary school and was taken in by her homeroom teacher, helped to enter the "May Seventh Art School," and later became an outstanding dancer with the "Zhongdu Dance and Music Troupe." In 1978, Xiang Ming also entered the troupe and reunited with his childhood friend He Yujie. Their innocent childhood companionship blossomed into a deep, loving relationship. Due to Xiang Ming's righteous and incorruptible nature, he offended the leaders of the troupe and was demoted to a county troupe in the northwest. He Yujie fell ill and was injured during a performance, leaving her disabled. The surgery failed, and she could no longer pursue the dance career she loved. Later, she was raped by Mei Xin, the troupe's office director. He Yujie lost all hope and, fearing her disability would burden her beloved Xiang Ming, took her own life. The ignorant and incompetent troupe leader Wu Shigeran and other corrupt officials protected Mei Xin, allowing her to escape justice, while instead arresting Xiang Ming, who sought revenge for He Yujie, in the detention center. The righteous members of the troupe, Yu Shiqing, Wu Ge, the director of the county troupe in the northwest, and Tong Le, a choir member who had long been infatuated with Xiang Ming, all worked tirelessly to negotiate and try to secure Xiang Ming's release, but their efforts were in vain.
