Features: In October 1998, Tsinghua University officially established the NGO Research Center and began basic research on Chinese NGOs. We have been continuously exploring and discovering the unique characteristics and patterns of Chinese NGO development. Despite challenges such as a lack of basic data, theoretical guidance, and legal regulations, with the support of an interdisciplinary, open, and empirical academic background, as well as an ever-strengthening team of academic, through various practical forms of communication and interaction such as academic salons, book clubs, classroom teaching, case studies, and seminars, we have been able to continuously inspire, collide, and link the information and insights we gather, as well as the flashes of ideas and thoughts that arise at any moment. Over time, these efforts have gradually formed some unique perspectives and approaches that belong to us. These, I hope, are the essence of Tsinghua NGO research. With the support of the Ford Foundation, we plan to publish about 10 specialized books on NGOs over the next 3-5 years, reflecting the academic research achievements of Tsinghua University's NGO Research Center, based on empirical research and related legislative and policy studies.

The core thread of this book is to discuss the evolutionary logic of social providers. After theoretically constructing pure individuals, it focuses on two key changes: social providers transitioning from society itself to institutionalized NPOs and government public organizations, and public organizations delegating their functions to the market. These changes have already occurred or are currently in progress. The book further reveals that market entities ultimately cannot fulfill the task of providing social. After the initial boom in the market, the third and fourth sectors of society will become the focus of the future. The operational logic of affairs differs from that of the market and public affairs, and the book touches on theoretical issues related to these aspects. Beyond the discussions on the market and public affairs, the book opens up a novel perspective.
