Features: Based on the observation and analysis of a large amount of corpus data, this book adopts a new perspective and analytical approach from the theory of language contact, examining the superficial to deep-level influences and transformations in the contact between English and Chinese. The book expands the research scope of English loanwords in modern Chinese and also covers the impact of English on the semantic, morphological, and syntactic levels of Chinese vocabulary. Theoretically, the book attempts to explain the internal linguistic mechanisms and driving forces behind the changes in Chinese influenced by English using the essence of modern Chinese and Western linguistic theories of lexicalization and grammaticalization. As a "catalyst," language contact induces and accelerates the evolutionary process of Chinese itself; in other words, language develops and changes under this "resonance relationship." Additionally, the book points out that translation is an important pathway that contributes to linguistic changes in the contact between English and Chinese.
