Features: This book is a teaching and learning aid for the undergraduate course "Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics" in higher vocational and technical colleges. It is a sister volume to the two books "Comprehensive Guide to Higher Mathematics" and "Comprehensive Guide to Linear Algebra," both published simultaneously by Hunan Science and Technology Press. The teaching and learning aid has been well-received by faculty and students in higher education institutions because it closely aligns with the textbook and provides practical assistance in teaching. A good teaching aid is a supplement and extension of the textbook, helping readers understand the textbook's structure, clarify concepts, resolve difficulties, overcome learning obstacles, and enhance their knowledge and skills. The authors of this book have strived to achieve these goals in writing it. The book consists of nine chapters, divided into two parts: Probability Theory (Chapters 1–5) and Mathematical Statistics (Chapters 6–9). Each chapter includes four sections: "Content Overview," "Difficulty Analysis," "Typical Examples," and "Exercise Solutions." The "Content Overview" focuses on analyzing the theoretical framework of the textbook's content, helping readers grasp the structure of the knowledge as a whole. The "Difficulty Analysis" provides thorough and clear explanations of the intuitive background and theoretical significance of important concepts, as well as the internal connections between concepts, and the ideas, meanings, and functions of important theorems, assisting readers in overcoming learning challenges. The "Typical Examples" aim to summarize the types and solutions of typical problems, training and improving problem-solving skills. The "Exercise Solutions" provide answers to most of the exercises from the widely used and influential "Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics" textbook compiled by Zhejiang University. This book is based on the "Basic Requirements for Teaching Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics" issued by the Ministry, various textbooks, the syllabus for the postgraduate entrance examination in mathematics, and the probability and statistics sections of past examination papers. It is suitable for teaching and learning support for probability theory and mathematical statistics courses in various disciplines of higher vocational and technical colleges, as well as for postgraduate entrance examination preparation.
