Her early loss of her father and brother, coupled with her frail health, shaped her unique psychological personality. She returns from Shanghai to the remote city of Zhucheng, experiences the suicide of her first love, and deeply feels the unpredictability of life and the importance of living for ideals. Together with her friends Yilan and Lin Xiaoyang, she overcomes numerous obstacles to open a uniquely styled hand-ground coffee shop, pouring into it many dreams. Unbeknownst to them, Lin Xiaoyang leaves the world in anger before the coffee shop's opening due to her husband's whoring. Due to the shortcomings of Zhucheng's cultural environment and Buqunzi's stubborn business principles, the coffee shop falls into, and the lives of Yilan and Buqunzi undergo dramatic changes. Yilan falls in love with the unrestrained poet Wangzi and eventually becomes pregnant, leading to rumors in Zhucheng. Wangzi retreats. Yilan, who has long been childless, nearly takes a risky pregnancy out of desperation to have a child. The immense societal pressure forces her to leave, and she is later sold into marriage. In her profound loneliness, Buqunzi meets Ma Ling, a securities company manager who is like a father and brother to her, and falls in love, finding the sense of security she has long sought. She is willing to change her lifelong vow of never marrying. However, Ma Ling has long suffered from his wife's betrayal, and his refusal to forgive has driven her to become a neurotic. After learning the truth, Buqunzi pleads with him to move beyond his distorted past and give everyone a way forward. But Ma Ling's hesitation and the reminder from the nun Xiaoyang ultimately leave her disheartened. The coffee shop is finally sold, and the dreams of the three women, like flowers, are abandoned by time. What lies before Buqunzi is still a mountain of days to be endured one by one.
