Features: This book is divided into three parts:
Part 1: Core Vocabulary (Days 1–15)
Core vocabulary refers to the most important and essential words that need to be thoroughly mastered during postgraduate entrance exam preparation. This part is based on the word frequency statistics of past exam papers, which were compiled using advanced computer technology. The vocabulary is supplemented and refined by referring to authoritative dictionaries such as Oxford, Longman, the English-Chinese Dictionary, and the Multifunctional Dictionary. It represents the core, most important, and essential part of postgraduate entrance exam vocabulary. This part has three distinctive features in terms of content and explanation:
1. Emphasis on Exam Vocabulary and Difficult Explanations
The new postgraduate entrance exam syllabus lists English words only, without providing Chinese translations, making it difficult for candidates to grasp the meanings of the words and increasing the difficulty of preparation. Many candidates lose points in the exam due to misunderstandings of word meanings. To address this, we have carefully selected and highlighted the meanings of exam words and the easily overlooked difficult explanations of key vocabulary, labeling them with 【Exam】 and 【Difficult】 respectively. This allows candidates to target their study effectively, break through blind spots, and overcome bottlenecks.
2. In-depth Examination Explanation
In the explanation of vocabulary in this part, subheadings such as "Reading Comprehension," "Cloze," and "Writing Sentence Patterns" are included. These provide thorough and in-depth explanations of the three main postgraduate entrance exam English question types, helping candidates improve their foundational abilities in these areas while mastering the vocabulary.
- Reading Comprehension includes over 600 exam example sentences and carefully selected classic examples from various materials, adhering to the principles of timeliness, practicality, and appropriateness. These sentences vary in length, are structurally complex, use natural and idiomatic expressions, and are logically rigorous. Mastering these examples will significantly enhance your postgraduate entrance exam preparation. Candidates can translate these sentences into Chinese first and then compare them to identify gaps, thereby improving their reading and translation skills.
- Cloze is accompanied by preposition collocations and selected word differentiation exercises, helping candidates understand the key points often tested in cloze questions.
- Writing Sentence Patterns provides nearly 200 high-scoring sentence structures, helping candidates become familiar with template sentences and feel confident in their writing.
3. Memorable Sentences for Added Value
This part also includes a "Memorable Sentences" section, where synonyms, near-synonyms, and derivatives appear together, making memorization more efficient. Alternatively, these sentences may be famous quotes or profound and meaningful expressions that can add value to your writing.
Part 2: Comprehension-Based Vocabulary (Days 16–18)
Comprehension-based vocabulary refers to the cognitive words commonly found in postgraduate entrance exam reading passages. In this part, the authors minimize the explanation of exam points and use contextual memory methods to help candidates memorize the words.
Part 3: Basic Vocabulary (Days 19–20)
This part lists the middle school-level vocabulary in the postgraduate entrance exam syllabus. The vocabulary is presented with phonetic transcriptions and simple explanations, arranged in columns for quick review. Candidates can quickly scan them to fill in gaps, review familiar words, and reinforce forgotten ones.
Appendix
This part includes six major sections: the 10-year postgraduate entrance exam outlier words, the 10-year exam reading passage categorized vocabulary, common prefixes and suffixes, common roots, common abbreviations, and an irregular verb list. These are designed to provide candidates with the most humanized assistance and the most practical learning tools.
