University of China, The Doctrine of the Mean - Classics of Chinese National Essence Library

Author: Yan Peijin
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2007-02-01
Features: Classic Collection of Chinese National Essence, Establish the Nation First, Establish Virtue First. As the classic of Chinese civilization for millennia, the Great Learning and the Doctrine of the Mean are not only the essence of ancient thought but also a stepping stone for modern progress. The Great Learning emphasizes the "Three Principles and Eight Steps," namely "Self-Cultivation, Family Order, Governing the State, and Pacifying the World"; the Doctrine of the Mean advocates "Harmony" and "Self-Exertion," demanding "Learn extensively, inquire deeply, think carefully, discern clearly, and act firmly." In the Northern Song Dynasty, Zhu Xi compiled annotations for both texts, which have remained popular and respected to this day. Although opinions on this book vary now, its enduring influence over a thousand years must be justified. Modern readers revisiting the original texts will surely grasp its profound wisdom and practice its principles, leaving a legacy for future generations!
