Wugong Mountain Scenic and Historic Area is located in the central-western part of Jiangxi Province, at the junction of Pingxiang, Yichun, and Ji'an cities. It lies in the northern section of the Luoxiao Mountains along the Hunan-Jiangxi border, between longitude 114°04'14"—114°22'52" E and latitude 27°22'36"—27°41'00" N.
The planned area of Wugong Mountain Scenic and Historic Area is 139.64 square kilometers (including 60.08 square kilometers in Anfu, Ji'an; 40.35 square kilometers in Luxi, Pingxiang; and 39.21 square kilometers in Yuanzhou, Yichun). The Pingxiang Municipal People's Government established the Pingxiang Wugong Mountain Scenic Area Management Committee in Luxi County to manage the "Pingxiang Wugong Mountain Scenic Area in Pingxiang City," and the Ji'an Municipal People's Government established the Anfu Wugong Mountain Scenic and Historic Area Tourism Management Committee in Anfu County to manage the "Anfu Wugong Mountain Scenic Area in Ji'an City." The Yichun Municipal People's Government established the Yichun Mingyue Mountain Hot Spring Scenic Area Management Committee in Yuanzhou District to manage the "Yichun Mingyue Mountain Tourism Area in Yichun City."
On December 31, 2005, Wugong Mountain Scenic and Historic Area was reviewed and confirmed by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as a National Scenic and Historic Area in the sixth batch.
