Features: In the past two decades, China's duck farming industry has achieved rapid development. The number of ducks raised, duck meat production, and duck feather production have all accounted for a significant share of the world total. According to statistics from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in 2002, China's duck population and duck meat production accounted for 69.7% and 69.4% of the global total, respectively. China's duck feather export volume also accounted for 50% of the world total. This achievement is largely attributed to the popularization of scientific duck farming technology, the transformation of duck farming production processes and methods, and the development of the market economy, which have driven the large-scale and commercialized production of ducks. In particular, large-scale and modern duck farming has emerged in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, East China, and the coastal areas of South China. By introducing superior breeds, advanced breeding techniques, and equipment, China's duck farming industry has made significant leaps forward, accumulating rich experience for further commercialization in the future. However, due to China's vast territory and weak foundation, the duck farming industry still faces many challenges. First, the production level remains relatively low. According to statistics from 2000, although China's duck slaughter rate and the dressed weight per slaughtered duck were higher than the global average, they were only 67.4% and 84.7% of those in the United States during the same period. Second, the breeding conditions and technical level of China's duck farming industry are still relatively backward. Currently, most duck farming in China is conducted by small-scale or individual farmers, with simple and inadequate duck houses and equipment. The lack of scientific breeding and management skills among farmers not only severely affects duck growth and production but also leads to frequent diseases and high mortality, disrupting the economic cycle of duck farming. Third, duck farming is exerting increasing pressure on the environment. Due to the lack of large-scale and scientific breeding, duck manure and feed often pollute the surrounding air, water, and soil, especially in slow-flowing rivers or ponds. Additionally, due to inadequate disease prevention and disinfection measures, duck farming may also trigger the occurrence of avian diseases and zoonoses in the surrounding environment. Fourth, duck product processing methods are backward. Although China produces a variety of duck products, most are processed through traditional small workshops, with outdated methods and low-quality products, which cannot fully meet modern consumer and export demands. To better address duck farming challenges and further promote the popularization of modern and green duck farming technologies, improve the contribution rate of science and technology in the industry, and enhance the economic benefits of duck farming, the authors have compiled Green Duck Farming Technology. This book focuses on the construction of green duck farming systems, the establishment of green duck breeding systems, green duck hatching technology, green duck farm construction, green duck nutrition supply and feed formulation, green duck breeding and management, and green duck disease prevention and control. The content is designed to be practical and actionable, with strong guidance for production, making it particularly suitable for intermediate and advanced duck farming personnel.
