Features: Genetic engineer Liu Cuì receives a gift sent by her husband to Beijing and finds it strange. Her mother strongly persuades her to visit the Three Gorges. She goes to the headquarters of the dam and discovers that her husband, who holds a high-ranking position, is having an affair. In anger, she goes to Liang County in the gorges. Liu Cuì finds her mother's old colleague, Aunt Chen, and her son Yue Ming, in the slums. She learns that years ago, her father was sent as an expert to Liang County. Her father arrested a prostitute, Honglian, and a monk, Yu Tong, for sexual misconduct, and they were sentenced to death. During the execution, Aunt Chen gave birth to her son, Yue Ming, and her mother gave birth to Liu Cuì. Aunt Chen believes that the prostitute Honglian was reborn as her son, Yue Ming. After a grand banquet for Hong Kong and Taiwan financing groups, Liu Cuì argues with her husband, who reveals the truth: during the Cultural Revolution, it was her mother's accusation that led to her father's tragic death. She is utterly bewildered: the Three Gorges scenery is beautiful and ethereal, yet people stir up so much hatred. In the middle of the night, she leaves her husband and rushes into the rain that engulfs everything.
