Features: To this day, with the acceleration of reform and opening-up, the Department of History has adjusted its strategic objectives and designed its development path based on its disciplinary strengths and characteristics. In accordance with the university's deployment, the New Century History Textbook Editorial Committee was established. With the strong support and cooperation of Beijing Normal University Press, the revision of the history foundation course textbooks published in the 1990s was carried out first. The goal is to promote the improvement of teaching quality and the achievement of new talent cultivation objectives through the revision and use of high-quality textbooks. This revision still adheres to the principle of using historical materialism as the guiding ideology, combining the needs of academic development and teaching reform, and incorporating new academic achievements and teaching concepts to align with the current trends of higher education and the teaching and learning of history disciplines. It aims to provide a set of relatively novel, comprehensive, and widely applicable foundation course textbooks for university history education in the 21st century. Considering the existing characteristics and advantages of this textbook series, no major changes are planned in the overall framework. Specifically, the original chapter, section, and sub-item structure remains largely unchanged. Several pictures are added before the main text, illustrations and maps are included in the text as needed, and several discussion questions are appended after each chapter. A reference bibliography is provided at the end of the book.
