The sketching of plaster portraits is one of the main subjects in the entrance examinations of art colleges. Plaster portrait sketching is a method and means to train the fundamental artistic qualities of art workers. The sketching of plaster portraits cannot be separated from concepts such as form, structure, proportion, light and shadow, space, and texture. It is a process of training students to move from intuition to rationality, from the particular to the general, from the to the whole, and from the surface to the interior. As a static object and a form summarized and refined by the sculptor, plaster portraits are more convenient for careful observation and study than real human heads.
