Features: This year's collection includes both heartfelt new works by established middle-aged and elderly writers already renowned in the literary world, as well as carefully crafted efforts by emerging novelists who have gained prominence since the 21st century. Their works explore a broader and more diverse range of social themes, with more profound and incisive ideas, more unique and engaging plots, and more vivid and lifelike characters. It can be said that they represent the new creative standards of Chinese mainland's short and medium-length fiction in 2006.
All the works in the book were selected from the 93 medium-length novels and 69 short stories published in our journal (including the special issue supplement) in 2006. After a thorough re-examination, they were repeatedly compared and filtered based on multiple aspects such as the ideological depth, literary quality, and readability of the works. Additionally, feedback from readers after the works were published was taken into consideration, and finally, 12 medium-length novels and 12 short stories were chosen to be compiled into this book.
The book maintains the established editorial format, consisting of two major sections: medium-length novels and short stories. Each work is arranged in the order it was published in the journal, with recent photos and brief biographies of the authors preceding each short story.
An appendix includes the complete table of contents for Novel Monthly (including the special issue supplement) in 2006, provided to readers. The purpose is twofold: first, to present the overall picture of the works published by Novel Monthly in this year; and second, to assist readers in locating relevant works.
