Features: Climbing plants, also known as trailing plants or vines, refer to plants whose stems and branches are easily elongated and cannot stand independently. They must rely on their tendrils or trailing stems to wrap around or climb, or even creep along the ground to grow normally. This includes both herbaceous and woody climbing plants. They are divided into:
- Climbing vines with tendrils or adventitious aerial roots, such as gourds, figs, and ivy, which can wrap around objects to grow;
- Twining vines, such as morning glories, climbing roses, clematis, and honeysuckle, whose stems can twine around objects to grow;
- Creeping vines, such as betel vine and creeping marigold, whose stems can spread horizontally along the ground, easily rooting where they touch the soil;
- Climbing shrubs, such as bougainvillea, jasmine, yellow trumpet honeysuckle, and glory vine, which are originally shrubs but develop semi-climbing or vine-like growth after their branches elongate. They can grow independently or rely on support.
Climbing plants are used in landscaping for arbors, trellises, fences, shaded structures, or as potted plants. After their stems and vines climb trellises, they can bloom for ornamental purposes, creating shaded areas beneath the trellises for rest and relaxation. Their uses are relatively specialized. This book collects a total of 111 climbing plants commonly used in the gardening industry, including newly introduced varieties in recent years.
Coconut palms refer to the palm trees in the family Arecaceae within the class Liliopsida, native to tropical or subtropical regions and important economic crops in tropical areas. The plants are evergreen trees, shrubs, or vines. Their stems are solitary or clumped, usually unbranched and cylindrical. Leaves are clustered at the top of the stem, with pinnately compound or palmately divided leaves. Their elegant and graceful forms make them important ornamental plants. This book collects over 70 species, with a few that are difficult to cultivate due to poor adaptation to local climate and soil conditions. Their photos were taken abroad and are for reference only.
