Patient's question:
One week after circumcision surgery, there was pain accompanied by swelling. When seen by a doctor, it was said to be normal, but the swelling still hasn't gone down. How long does it usually take for the swelling to subside? What treatments are available?Doctor's answer:
Erythroderma is not a serious condition. There are two possible scenarios:One is that the boy's foreskin has just been retracted recently, and the inner foreskin is not yet fully mature. Additionally, sexual intercourse or friction with underwear may cause swelling. In this case, treatment is generally not required, and it usually heals on its own within a week.
The other scenario is after a circumcision, when the fresh skin is exposed and rubs against the surrounding area, leading to swelling. The swelling may appear shiny, but as long as there is no broken skin or redness, it is not a concern.
