Features: "The Method of Using Medicines According to the Specimen, Root, Deficiency, Excess, Cold, and Heat of the Zang-Fu Organs" is the masterpiece of Zhang You'e. It was first recorded in Li Shizhen's "Compendium of Materia Medica," then engraved in Zhao Shuanghu's "Guidance to Medicine," and later included in Zhou Xuehai's "Comprehensive Collection of Medical Classics" in the late Qing Dynasty. To this day, there is no separate edition published. Zhang You'e, styled Jieguo, later known as the Jieguo Elder, was the founder of the Yishui School, a renowned medical tradition in China. Zhang's greatest contribution to traditional Chinese medicine was to integrate the use of medicinal herbs with the changes in the specimen, root, deficiency, excess, cold, and heat of the zang-fu organs based on the strengths of predecessors and his own decades of clinical experience. This established a complete system for syndrome differentiation and treatment of the zang-fu organs. "The Method of Using Medicines According to the Specimen, Root, Deficiency, Excess, Cold, and Heat of the Zang-Fu Organs" is the crystallization of this system. Syndrome differentiation of the zang-fu organs has become the foundation of various clinical syndromes today. To help beginners in traditional Chinese medicine understand the principles of syndrome differentiation and treatment, we have decided to annotate and explain Zhang's work. First, we conducted a collation and annotation of the original text. The method of collation used Li Shizhen's "Compendium of Materia Medica" as the base text, with Zhao Shuanghu's "Guidance to Medicine" and Zhou Xuehai's "Comprehensive Collection of Medical Classics" as supplementary references. For unresolved issues, we referred to Ren Yingqiu's annotated "Source of Medicine." Any changes made to the "Compendium of Materia Medica" version are annotated with the source and reason. All traditional characters have been converted to standard simplified characters.
