Features: This is a monograph dedicated to studying Zhang Zihe, one of the Four Great Masters of Jin and Yuan dynasties and a representative of the pathogen-removing school, as well as his renowned work Rumen Shi Qin. The first part, New Perspectives on Rumen Shi Qin, primarily addresses issues related to the book itself. The first chapter adopts a longitudinal approach to discuss each volume in detail, such as the formation and dissemination of the published editions, the overall structure and internal connections of the book, the writing and textual research of the volume and chapter titles, as well as the examination and analysis of historical materials related to Zhang Zihe, his friends, disciples, and family. This serves both as a brief introduction to the subsequent thematic studies and as a fundamental overview of the medical history and literature of Rumen Shi Qin. Chapters two to twelve adopt a horizontal approach to discuss thematic topics, focusing on Zhang Zihe's distinctive methods of sweating, vomiting, purging, and replenishing, each with defined connotations and comprehensive summaries. The theoretical innovations, clinical applications, prescription analysis, and mechanisms of action of these methods are explored from relatively new perspectives. The treatment mechanisms of pathogen-removing therapy, the characteristics of non-pharmacological treatments, the theory and composition of prescriptions, and the clinical treatment features and patterns across various disciplines are discussed and summarized from both theoretical innovation and clinical expertise, aiming to interpret its academic theories and its academic viewpoints at a new level of understanding. It is hoped that this work will contribute to developing and breaking through traditional theoretical models, inspiring new approaches to disease treatment, and guiding modern clinical practice. The purpose of the thirteenth chapter is explained in the title notes, serving as a supplementary discussion and conclusion to New Perspectives on Rumen Shi Qin.
The second part, New Collation of Rumen Shi Qin, is a well-crafted new collation dedicated to readers. The term "new" refers to the fact that while the collation is based on the same source text, it does not follow the old path of mutual collation within the Ming Dynasty Shao Fu edition system. Instead, it incorporates new comparative and reference texts, effectively correcting errors that previous collations could not resolve. This ensures that the medical principles and textual meanings are largely clear and unimpeded, making it an indispensable component of systematic research on Rumen Shi Qin.
