Overview of Naxi Dongba Culture Research

Features: The Naxi Dongba culture is a precious cultural heritage in China and even in the world. Its fascinating and distinctive characteristics have attracted widespread attention from scholars both domestically and internationally. The in-depth development of the internationalization and localization of Naxi Dongba culture research has led to an endless stream of research outcomes. To promote the study of Dongba culture with regional and ethnic characteristics and to facilitate international academic exchanges, with the approval of the Yunnan Provincial Education Commission, we began the construction of the "Special Database for Naxi Dongba Culture Research" in 1999. Using an exhaustive search method, we collected 2,191 research papers on the Naxi ethnic group, Dongba culture, and studies on the history, ethnicity, economy, and culture of the Lijiang area in Yunnan Province, as well as 481 books and 116 foreign-language materials (publications and internal publications up to the end of 2003). In total, there are 2,787 entries, covering all current fields of Naxi Dongba culture research and reflecting the overall picture of this field. The paper section includes contributions from over 800 authors, involving 426 books and periodicals, covering 20 major categories and 254 subcategories of the "Chinese Library Classification." The monograph section contains entries from 179 individual and collective authors, covering 11 major categories and 67 subcategories of the "Chinese Library Classification." The foreign-language section includes contributions from 60 authors, covering 7 major categories and 34 subcategories of the "Chinese Library Classification." It provides information such as titles, authors, publishers, sources, journal names, volumes, issues, abstracts, and search methods. Based on the selected 2,191 papers, 481 monographs, and 116 foreign-language works, this article analyzes the literature on Naxi Dongba culture research. Although we adopted an exhaustive search method, some omissions are inevitable, but it still fundamentally reflects the overall picture of Naxi Dongba culture research.
