Features: This book was once used as an internal teaching material in higher education institutions around 1986 and was printed for two or three years. It was officially published in 1990. To date, it has been revised five times, which is deeply regrettable. The main reason lies in the content constantly falling behind the times and failing to meet teaching needs. The second revision was in 1993, with significant changes made to the chapters on language, logic, and writing style in the upper part, as well as the three sections on official documents, business documents, and communication styles (originally promotional styles). After revision, it was still not entirely satisfactory. In the "Preface to the Second Edition" (now deleted), I expressed hope that "a more scientific, practical, and concise textbook for applied writing would come into being in the future." However, this hope seems to have not been realized. By 1997, the book had to be revised again, with the aim of improving it further. This revision took into account the feedback collected since the book's publication and the issues I discovered myself, "correcting all theoretical inaccuracies, inappropriate formats, unclear explanations, and awkward phrasing." The upper part of the book had the chapters on language and logic removed; the lower part had the section on argumentative essays removed and an additional five chapters on economic documents added. Additionally, examples and text in other sections were adjusted and revised (with the participation of Mr. Li Boliang in some sections). By 2001, the new "Advertising Law of the People's Republic of China" and the "Measures for the Handling of Official Documents by State Administrative Organs" were successively promulgated and implemented. Meanwhile, the book had nearly 180,000 copies in circulation, a number already astonishing. Thus, it was decided that another revision was necessary—first, to keep up with the times, and second, to fulfill responsibility (still with the help of Teacher Li). Unforeseenly, as the 21st century dawned, with the rapid development of higher education, the book sold tens of thousands of copies within three years. Now, to make the book relatively perfect, the sixth revision is made. This revision, in addition to refining the text throughout the book, focuses on substantial revisions to sections on official documents, regulation documents, economic documents, and other certain chapters. Despite this, the book still dares not claim to be perfect, and thus respectfully invites experts, scholars, and readers to criticize and correct it.
