The older generation of revolutionary leaders, such as Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Deng Xiaoping, and Chen Yun, have published many important and incisive remarks on the issue of investigation and research. They often went to the grassroots to conduct social investigations in person and wrote numerous reports. Their practices and achievements in investigation and research played a significant role in guiding the Party and the people's cause to develop along the right path. This book is divided into three parts: The first part is a compendium of excerpts on investigation and research by Mao Zedong and the older generation of revolutionary leaders; the second part is a collection of writings on investigation and research by Mao Zedong and the older generation of revolutionary leaders; the third part consists of three investigation teams assigned by Mao Zedong in the early 1960s and investigation reports written by Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, Chen Yun, and Deng Xiaoping. Most of these investigation reports were not previously. Additionally, two summaries on the situation of central leaders conducting investigation and research in the 1950s and 1960s are appended.
