Compared with the results of the fourth national census in 1990, the Han Chinese population increased by 116.92 million, a growth of 11.22%; the population of ethnic minorities increased by 15.23 million, a growth of 16.70%, which is 5.48 percentage points higher than that of the Han Chinese. The growth rate of the ethnic minority population being higher than that of the Han Chinese reflects the characteristics of China's population and family planning policy, which is based on practical conditions and provides targeted guidance.
