Features: Different health surveys tell us that in modern urbanites with fast-paced lives, regardless of social class, there is an increasing prevalence of "sub-health." Some health surveys indicate that the incidence of sub-health among the Chinese population ranges from 45% to 75%, primarily affecting individuals aged 30 to 65, with middle-aged intellectuals and those engaged in mental labor being the main groups. The sub-health issue among adolescents is a cause for concern, while among the elderly, it is complex and variable, often accompanied by chronic stress. For special occupational groups under constant stress, sub-health is particularly prominent. As for defining sub-health, it is a concept with rich and broad, including: physical sub-health, psychological sub-health, social adaptive sub-health, and moral sub-health. There have been numerous discussions both within and outside the field regarding sub-health, which are not elaborated on in this book. In other words, modern urbanites are adapting to the ever-changing demands of work, interpersonal relationships, and environmental shifts by depleting their health. In times of transformation, the stress on people's mental and physical adaptation is inevitable. The primary causes of stress include: excessive tension and fatigue, unhealthy lifestyles and habits, the impact of environmental pollution, and adverse psychological factors. As professional psychotherapists and psychological counselors, despite years of experience in counseling and treatment and having accompanied many clients through critical life stages, we still feel helpless and regretful. Our capabilities are so limited that we cannot attend to every person who yearns to share their thoughts. We also know that many who need and are willing to consult lack the time or courage to visit a psychological counseling clinic. This gave rise to the idea of compiling a small desk reference book for these busy individuals, so they can casually flip through it during their free moments, perhaps gaining some inspiration for mental stress relief. The title "Urban Life Stress Relief Methods" was selected by the publisher's editor and assigned to us. When we discussed this idea with experts after a national psychological academic conference, they were in complete agreement. The book's approach was determined as follows: (1) A group of professionals compiled and popularized common stress relief methods used in psychological counseling and treatment, emphasizing readability and practicality. (2) We invited employees and managers from high-stress occupational groups to share effective stress relief methods they had accumulated in their actual work (referred to as "practical remedies"), which may be more practical and effective. This can correct the tendency of some psychological professionals to theorize without practical experience or to rely solely on paper-based strategies. To achieve this, we encountered some new challenges: submissions from different industries varied in style, making it difficult for the editor to unify the manuscript. Balancing authenticity with consistency, we adopted a compromise approach, hoping to preserve the original intent of the authors while presenting a more comprehensive range of psychological stress relief and counseling methods. The book's features include: (1) Collective wisdom (people from various industries jointly addressing and contributing to the stress relief topic). (2) Special thanks to Professor Gao Tian, a nationally registered music therapist from the Central Conservatory of Music, who dedicated his time to creating the "Urban Life Music Stress Relief Psychotherapy" CD for this book. This greatly enhances the practical effectiveness of the book, and readers will gradually appreciate its subtle nuances and effects when using it. (3) Many of the psychological counseling and treatment methods in the book were collected and organized by graduate students of medical psychology from Peking University Health Science Center. We believe that after completing this book, they will also benefit from and improve their application of psychological knowledge. It is worth mentioning that the stress relief methods described in the book have been repeatedly used and proven effective, but they may not be suitable for all situations, people, or contexts. Therefore, when using them, it is important to choose methods that resonate with you and are effective for your personal needs. Given the rapid development of psychology as an applied field, we often refer to psychological counseling and guidance as a "developing discipline." Like any developing field, writing a book on it often leaves some content feeling incomplete and in need of updating. This is unavoidable, and we can only leave room for revisions in the future. If this book can inspire readers to create new personal stress relief methods and offer some enlightenment, we will be deeply satisfied.
