Features: On August 21-22, 2004, the inaugural World Conference on Chinese Studies Forum, co-hosted by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and organized by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, was held at the Shanghai International Convention Center. Over 80 overseas scholars from 30 countries and regions, as well as more than 100 domestic invited representatives from Shanghai and other cities in China attended the forum. Over the two-day event, scholars from China and abroad shared their insights on six topics: "Globalization and China's Revival," "Economic Development and Humanistic Concern," "Social Development and Social Transformation," "Civilizational Development and Civilizational Dialogue," "History and Tradition: The Chinese Way," and "Urban Experiences and Shanghai's Progress." They exchanged profound thoughts and shared valuable insights. The scholars who participated in the forum, both domestic and international, highly evaluated it. Foreign scholars regarded the forum as a successful international academic conference, creating and providing opportunities and platforms for research, intellectual exchange, and multilateral dialogue among scholars and researchers in Chinese studies. It offered important references and insights for the development of China's material civilization, political civilization, and spiritual civilization, particularly creating conditions for the international community to gain a deeper understanding of China. To leave a more lasting academic legacy from this significant event, we selected high-quality and insightful papers from a broad call for submissions across relevant academic institutions both domestically and internationally, compiling them into a Chinese-language collection of essays to contribute to the advancement of Chinese studies worldwide.
