Professional Ethics and Civic Morality: The Collected Works of Durkheim (Volume Two)

Author: (French) Emile Durkheim, translated by Qu Dong and Fu Degeng
Publisher:
Publication Date: 2006-07-01
Features: The theme of this volume is moral sociology, which includes three parts: "Professional Ethics and Civic Morality" and "Ethics and Moral Sociology" are two works compiled by later scholars, in addition to several scattered book reviews, commentaries, and discussions. This is the second volume of Durkheim's collected works, where the author systematically examines the social origins of professional ethics, revealing its foundational role in the development of modern society. At the same time, it explores the special relationship between political forms and public morality from the perspective of the relationship between the state and the individual. Finally, it traces the historical evolution of property rights and contractual rights, thereby refuting the theory of natural rights. The author advocates for social facts as the object of social research, so this book is not limited to the discussion of pure ethical theory but combines legal, political, and anthropological practices, reflecting its profound historical sociological perspective.
