I had the honor of serving as the editor-in-chief and collaborating with scholars and colleagues in China to complete this largest library of contemporary foreign literature, which has become an unforgettable and beautiful memory in my life. In these two "Collected Essays," involving over sixty to seventy writers and around one hundred works, ranging from the beginning to the end of the century, they have essentially demonstrated the general historical process and various aspects of the development of 20th-century French literature. For major intellectual trends and prominent literary phenomena, there are focused descriptions, which, to a certain extent, already possess the main content expected of a literary history. Therefore, they are considered as a continuation of the original three-volume "History of French Literature," and their content has been summarized into twelve thematic sections.
