Four Books, Chapter Sentences, Collected Notes, New Edition, Collection of Masterpieces of the Hundred Schools of Thought

Author: (Song) Zhu Xi
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2009-01-01
Features: This book compiles the Confucian classics "The Great Learning," "The Doctrine of the Mean," "The Analects," and "Mencius" into one volume, emphasizing the explanation and elaboration of their principles while also paying close attention to textual exegesis, with meticulous word selection. The current edition is based on the annotated edition by Wu County's Wu family during the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty, with collation using the large-character edition of the Kangxi era's imperial workshop, which imitates the Song Dynasty's Chunyou 2nd year edition. The entire work is divided into two series; the first series includes the same classical texts as the "Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Philosophers," which are frequently read or referenced by general researchers. Each text is selected from the best available annotated editions to date. For a few texts without existing annotations, separate annotations are provided. Some books include multiple annotated editions, each with its own strengths. To maintain consistency in style, except for a few exceptions, only annotated editions written in classical or colloquial classical Chinese are included. The second series collects other classical texts outside the first series. Most of these lack existing annotated editions, and where necessary, annotations should be added. For those without annotations, the best available editions are selected for collation.
