Features: This series of textbooks is one of the design and art education series compiled by the Design College of the China Academy of Art. Originally planned to comprise 50 books, the series aimed to establish a significant scale and influence the design and art community. Although I initiated this project, I felt the responsibility was too great to bear and believed that a diverse and flourishing approach was better. Therefore, no chief editor was appointed, and each contribution bears its own responsibility. The merits and flaws will be judged by public opinion. Today, the design market is booming, and everyone is busy, yet the () mentality makes high-quality textbooks scarce. The lack of theory leads to the emptiness of design, which is an undeniable fact. Colleagues like Xiaoqi, through their tireless efforts, have squeezed time like a sponge to compile the "Series on Architectural and Environmental Imagery Expression," leaving behind a valuable record. Indeed, for the countless students, as a teacher, it is a duty I cannot shirk. Teachers like Wu Xiaoqi from our Environmental Art Department and () from the Industrial Design Department have taken the lead. We should follow suit. I maintain good working relationships with these teachers and sincerely wish them even greater achievements. Writing an introduction of hundreds of words is the hardest task. To achieve conciseness and clarity, apart from skill, the key lies in where to start. After careful consideration and multiple revisions, I have written this "plain language" introduction, which serves as the preface.
Professor at the China Academy of Art, Vice Dean of the Design College, and Doctoral Supervisor: Wang Guoliang
Architectural and Environmental Imagery Expression is the foundation of environmental art and design, and it is increasingly valued as an important aspect of modern commercial competition bidding. In compiling this series, we attempt to start with the basic principles of architectural and environmental design, from hard-line sketches to colored renderings, and even to the widely used computer drawing techniques in modern applications. We aim to present a complete and progressive learning method through our introduction. We hope that through our guidance, beginners, especially students from similar professional institutions, will receive proper instruction and quickly master the professional techniques of architectural and environmental imagery expression, achieving twice the result with half the effort.
The Environmental Art Department of the China Academy of Art has always emphasized the mastery of watercolor rendering techniques for students. In ink and wash rendering exercises, it has focused on inheriting the traditional Chinese humanistic spirit. This training method has been proven effective in practice. Students' professional painting skills rank among the best in similar institutions nationwide and have become the "signature skill" of Environmental Art students at the China Academy of Art.
